UK knitting events 2016

Happy new year everyone!  I hope you’re all gearing up for a wonderful 2016.  If that includes anything knitterly, then I hope I can help you out with my annual list of knitting events across the UK.

I always really enjoy putting together this list.  Dreaming and planning for trips is one of my favourite things, so researching knitterly trips is just my cup of tea!

As always, there are a mixture of well-established and new events this year.  Newly added to the list is Gwlana, held in Wales.  I’ve mentioned Gwlana on a previous post as a retreat, but I’ve heard whispers that there is something a bit different planned for May this year, so on the “events” list it goes!  I’m very much looking forward to finding out more.  Also new this year is the Loch Ness Knit Festival, about which very little is currently known.  Intriguing.

Get your diaries ready folks!

I’ve also put this information together in a handy PDF suitable for printing which you can download here.
So tell me, what are you especially looking forward to this year?

  1. Can anyone please tell me why Lincolnshire seems to be off of everybody’s radar.?
Since moving to Lincolnshire 16 months ago to be closer to my parents , I have discovered it seems to be the forgotten county ( in many ways!!) but my nearest wool shops are about 15-20 miles away. It is true that one can purchase yarns from the local department store or ‘Yorkshire Traders’ ( who are my saviours for all my craft purchases ) but the yarns in these shops are limited. Our local ‘range’ store in Boston sells everything but yarn and have been told by the staff that a great many people ask them why they don’t stock it. There is obviously a need. It appears that nobody even wants to Bring a wool/ yarn show here either.

For several years I attended the Ampthill ‘Fibre east’ show . It was fantastic. I picked up new skills In knitting and picked up felting bug…….brilliant.

i really do think that an event like ‘ Fibre east’ would be a great success in Lincolnshire for all us folks who are yarn enthusiasts and for just one weekend a year wallow in all things wolly.

Thank you for reading the moans and groans !! And can you help!!

    • Hi there Lynda. It seems like you’re in a bit of a black spot for yarn shows! Do you meet up with other knitters in the area? The Horncastle group seems quite active. Perhaps it’s time to get chatting to other knitterly and yarny folk to see what you can come up with?
